Equipment & Ramp Assistance

disAbility Connections provides funding for the purchase of medical equipment and the construction of ramps.  Working with Rotary and Kiwanis building crews, we construct ramps so children and adults may leave and enter their homes.

Ramp Criteria
disAbility Connections has provided over 26 ramps for people with disAbilities during the 2003 season. Ramps are built spring, summer and fall.

Ramp Process
A home visit will be made to determine the set up for the ramp. If a permit is necessary, we will work through the process to obtain the permit. We build the ramp to code, so a materials list will be generated and the material obtained. Devoted volunteers including Rotarians and Kiwanans build the ramps over a weekend.

We ask the recipient to pay 25% of the cost of the ramp. Most ramps are in the $1000 range, so the co-pay is generally $250.

To be eligible for a ramp a person must:

  • Have a doctor’s prescription or medical statement of disability

  • Provide proof of total monthly household income

  • Have written proof of home ownership or written approval to install a ramp from the property owner

  • Provide health insurance information, if any

  • Submit the above information with a completed application available from our office

Due to the short building season and demand for ramps, there is a waiting period of approximately 3-4 weeks after the initial request has been approved.
